October 1 -- 8th Ward Flood Meeting Organized by Alderman Rosemary Argus

Back on July 28, 2009, 8th Ward Councilman Rosemary Argus held a "Flood Meeting" to gather feedback for flooding issues in her ward. She is having a followup meeting as noted below at the Friendship Conservatory on October 1, 2009. Mayor Moylan, Jon Duddles, and Tim Oakley are scheduled to attend.
The text of her flyer follows:

FLOOD MEETING!!!!

All Eighth Ward residents are invited to come together to see and hear the results of all of the questionnaires submitted by you the residents. The Des Plaines Engineering Department put all of your information in the computer and determined how many of you have stormwater sewer backup, how many are experiencing sanitary sewer backup, etc. The meeting will be held at FRIENDSHIP PARK CONSERVATORY, 395 W. Algonquin Road at 6:30 PM ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1. 2009.

Our Mayor, Marty Moylan as well as our City Engineer Jon Duddles will be on hand to discuss the results of the survey (information provided by you the residents) and what we can do to solve the problems. Jon will do a power point presentation “Engineering 101” which will help all of us to better understand our flooding problems and possible solutions.

If you are interested in the results and the presentation, please attend the October 1 meeting.
Another important date is October 13…this date is when the City Council will be discussing Capital Improvement projects as part of the budget discussions. The City Council meets at 6:30 PM at City Hall. If we hope to accelerate the Marshall/Pennsylvania scheduled for 2011 or any other projects for our ward, it is important for us to have a significant attendance and residents who are ready to speak to the flooding problems in our ward. In recent years, our ward is experiencing more rain and more frequent flooding than ever before. Even with the Marshall/Pennsylvania project completed….this may not resolve all the flooding in that area. Also, we are flooding on over 30 streets in our ward no where near Marshall and Pennsylvania….we need help on other streets.

Be kind to anyone who is delivering this to you.. residents are helping to get this material delivered to you and I thank them. E-mail your address to me if you want to be on a 8th Ward E-Mail List.
